I’m Not Dead Yet

I walk through the ally of death, the chains on my feet and wrist are tight, every move I make hurts. We arrive at the centre, the main building. I can see puddles of blood as far as my eyes can see. I can hear the painful shrieking of the prisoners and their loved ones. All I can smell is the aura of blood and death. The guard pushes me to walk faster, faster towards the crowds of people that stand around the board, where I will soon be tied to. ‘Cut till death,’ they chant.

The people split to make a walkway, to my surprise, we stay still. Another guard takes and girl from a cell and drags her out, she begins to scream and struggle desperately to escape. She has no hope. The guard, grunts and picks her up, carrying her to the board, je holds her there as others strap her down with red rope. She’s wearing a short cream coloured crop top and quarter leggings. People start to cheer and the first knife slides along her and bright blood seeps down. She screams in agony but that only makes the crowd roar louder. Slowly but surely, they slide the knifes along her body, violently, ignore here painful cries and screams. Eventually the screaming dull and then stops. Her head flops lifelessly to the side. Her body relaxes and she stops struggling. She’s dead. 27 out of 79 cuts and she’s already dead, she lost too much blood. They didn’t even both checking if she was still alive, they knew. They unstrap her and someone carries her to a bin and tosses her in.

The crowd begins to cheer again as they bring a new prisoner in, it’s a complete slaughterhouse. I hold back a sob, this is going to happen to me. I have to get out of here. NOW. The guard starts pushing me towards the other building. Once we are inside there are cells everywhere. We stop at an empty cell; he grabs a stick out of the fireplace and stabs it onto my side. I scream in agony and try to lean away but he keeps my still; he finally takes it off. I look down, I witness my new scar; the number 13 is branded onto my hip. He chucks me in the cell and closes the door behind me. Before he leaves, he turns to me and says, “Welcome to you new home, enjoy it well it lasts.”
